Kimmel’s show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled from the air back in September, following the host’s remarks about the death of Charlie Kirk.
Shortly after ABC US made the announcement, Trump, who was on a UK state visit at the time, posted on Truth Social.
“Great News for America: The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED,” Trump wrote.

“Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible.
“That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT”.
The cancellation was originally said to be ‘indefinite’, but Kimmel returned within a week, his first show back receiving the highest ratings Jimmy Kimmel Live! has ever seen.
The most awkward moments in TV talk show history
During his Critics Choice Awards speech, Kimmel thanked his entertainment industry colleagues who “supported us … and reminded us that we do not take free speech for granted in this city or in this country”.
“Your actions are important, and we appreciate them,” he said, before turning his attention to Trump.
”Most of all, I wanna thank our president, Donald Jennifer Trump. Without whom, we’d be going home empty-handed tonight.
“So thank you, Mr. President for all the many ridiculous things you do each and every day.
“It’s been a banner couple of weeks, and we can’t wait to get back on the air tomorrow night to talk about them.”
