Texas Football DT Melvin Hills III enters transfer portal

    -

Texas Football has lost its third player of the day to the NCAA transfer portal. Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Melvin Hills III is joining redshirt freshman quarterback Trey Owens and redshirt sophomore running back CJ Baxter as “former” Longhorns. Texas also lost star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. Monday to the NFL Draft.

The Louisiana native redshirted in 2024 and only played 28 snaps during four games in 2025 with the Longhorns. The Lafayette Christian Academy product was one of just two defensive tackle signed in Texas’ 2024 recruiting class. Hills was signed in order to get another body into the door after missing on several DTs that year.

Hills, a three-star prospect, was the lowest-ranked non-specialist in the 2024 Longhorns recruiting class and was the No. 685 player nationally according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

The new single window transfer portal is still a few weeks away, but many players are announcing their intentions early to give them more time to find a new home.
