BENGALURU: Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) Wednesday said it has signed a contract with Germany’s Hensoldt Sensors GmbH at the Dubai Air Show 2025 to secure design transfer and intellectual property rights for advanced obstacle-avoidance technologies for helicopters. The agreement covers the Transfer of Design ToT, IPR, and manufacturing and repair capability for an Obstacle Avoidance System (OAS) and a Degraded Visual Environment (DVE) system. DK Sunil, CMD, HAL, said the partnership would strengthen India’s ability to develop and own LiDAR-based helicopter obstacle-avoidance systems. “This agreement will ensure that India develops and owns a LiDAR-based helicopter Obstacle Avoidance System, an advanced capability that only a few countries have mastered. HAL and Hensold will collaborate on the design, manufacture, integration, and testing of this system, with the potential for export of OAS and DVE,” he said.HAL said the technologies would support safer operations in poor visibility and contribute to the indigenous ecosystem for advanced avionics.
