Isla Fisher is opening up about rediscovering herself and building a new life following her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen.
In a new interview with Elle Decoration U.K., published Wednesday, the 49-year-old Now You See Me actress reflected on adjusting to her new London home and to single life for the first time in years.
“When it all arrived, I did have a bit of a cry because this was my first time as a single woman, being in a home of my own,” Fisher said of settling in.
Fisher and Baron Cohen, 54, finalised their divorce in June after 13 years of marriage. The pair, who married in 2010, announced their separation in 2023 and share three children — two daughters and one son — whom they’ve always kept out of the public eye.
“Trying to create a new life from a grassroots level, at least emotionally, has been challenging, but deeply rewarding,” Fisher shared. Despite the major life change, she said she’s feeling fulfilled.
“I’m enjoying this new version of my life. I don’t need to party in my house anymore. I love to get in the bath. I’ll light some candles, bring in my laptop and put on something on Netflix. That’s as exciting as it gets.”
When announcing their split, the couple said in a joint statement, “We are proud of all we’ve achieved together and, continuing our great respect for each other, we remain friends and committed to co-parenting our wonderful children.”
Over the summer, Fisher told Harper’s Bazaar Australia she’s focused on her next chapter. “I’m really excited for the next chapter. I’m refocusing on my career because previously I was very much focused on my kids,” she said.
Fisher added that the transition has helped her redefine herself: “I’m trying to remind myself of my new identity as somebody outside of a partnership and to stay as buoyant as possible. Any time there’s change, it’s hard to adapt. But hopefully I’m doing an okay job.”
