Clemson football HC Dabo Swinney on if Cade Klubnik will play vs SMU

    -

Clemson football quarterback Cade Klubnik left Saturday’s game at Boston College with an injury late in the third quarter with the Tigers up big.

After the game, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney confirmed that Klubnik had left after rolling his ankle in the Tigers’ 41-10 victory over the Eagles.

“He rolled his ankle up. Tried to come back in, but we just are going to see how it goes,” Swinney said in his postgame press conference. “Hopefully not too bad, but just really proud of him. He was precise, he made some big plays. Had one (interception) he’d like to have back, but he really put the ball on the money.”

Klubnik finished the night 22-of-30 for 280 yards and a touchdown pass. He also ran for 48 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. The Tigers (3-3 overall, 2-2 ACC) totaled 504 yards of offense and scored on their first six possessions against Boston College (1-5, 0-4).

Swinney said that Klubnik had been nursing a “little bit of a sore ankle anyway.”

“You’ve probably seen him taped up, but he just kind of rolled it up,” he said. “Just got rolled under it. He went in, they untaped it and re-taped him. Said he was ready to go back in. I said let’s just see how (backup QB Christopher Vizzina) does here. And it’s good for CV to have to go in there and play.”

So does Swinney expect Klubnik to play against SMU when the Mustangs visit Death Valley in Week 8?

“Yeah, absolutely,” Swinney said without hesitation.

“Like I said, he was trying to play tonight and come back in there. I’m sure he’ll be sore tomorrow. We’ll have to evaluate it and y’all will ask me every day how he’s doing,” Swinney joked. “I’ll say the same thing. But yeah, I don’t see anything at this point that (would stop him from playing).”

Kickoff for Clemson-SMU is at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ACC Network. The Mustangs (4-2, 2-0) defeated Stanford, 34-10, on Saturday.
