Colts’ DT DeForest Buckner recently shared what he’s seen in training camp from Anthony Richardson.
Kay Adams and the ‘Up and Adams’ Show were at Indianapolis Colts’ training camp on Sunday. Joining Adams for an interview was defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.
Naturally, the quarterback competition was part of the conversation, specifically what Buckner has seen from Richardson during this training camp.
“Just his sense of urgency,” Buckner said. “The way he responded to having a quarterback competition. He was open to it and he was ready for it. And you could tell when he got back and the camp that he’s been able to put together. It’s been fun to see.”
Along with Buckner seeing elevated play from Richardson this summer, guard Quenton Nelson recently offered high praise for the Colts’ quarterback as well.
Wanting to improve his accuracy on the short to intermediate passes, Richardson spent a lot of time on his footwork this offseason, which is where proper mechanics and accuracy often begins for a quarterback.
That work is showing up on the practice field, with Richardson putting together a much more efficient showing overall this summer.
That doesn’t mean it’s been perfect or there isn’t room for improvements, but when he’s had a down day, Richardson has been able to bounce back.
“Everything’s cleaner right now,” Steichen said during training camp, via Colts.com. “He’s playing at a high level, he’s making good decisions with the football, taking the completions when needed, so it’s been really good to see.”
The next step for Richardson is showcasing these improvements during the preseason.
