Griff Talks Gracie Abrams Tour & One Year Of ‘Vertigo’

    -

When you open for these massive tours, is it scary to perform in front of tens of thousands of people?

(Griff laughs) It’s terrifying! Stadiums in the daytime are also hard because you’ve got daylight. You want no light, to help people focus on you. Also, at a stadium level, you’re playing in front of so many people, and you really have no idea how they will receive you.

Your debut album, Vertigo, recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. I love that album, and I’m curious, how do you feel about it a year later?

Thank you so much. My perspective definitely changed. I love Vertigo — it was the first album I put out into the world. Like any first in your life, you sometimes see what you would have done differently, but you’re like, “Ah, it was my first time.”

It was a real boot camp of what goes into making an album. There were moments that were totally overwhelming, and there were moments with a lot of second-guessing.

Touring the album has made me fall in love with it in a new way. Sometimes, as an artist, you sit with your songs for so long on your laptop, and you go around in circles, not knowing if they’re any good. When you perform them live to an audience that loves the songs, you almost fall in love with them all over again.
