Eric Church had achieved a significant milestone, with the country superstar getting nostalgic about 14 years since the release of the breakout hit album ‘Chief’ in an Instagram post that sent everyone reaching for truck-bed memories, lake-day reminiscences, and tunes striking Taylor-Guitar hard to even now.

The post featured a short lyric quote from ‘Springsteen,’ one of the most iconic songs off the album, with Church asking, ‘What’s your favorite song from the album?’ As you might imagine, the responses came thick and fast from the Church Choir.
Some had a harder time picking from the bunch. ‘I think ‘Drink in my Hand’ or ‘Springsteen’. But when I did my yoga teacher training, ‘Homeboy’ was on my playlist. So who can say?’ one user humorously said, as if to say Church fits every type of vibe—even downward dog. Another said, ‘I can’t choose just one.’ Another person went on to say, ‘ALL OF THEM! My favorite album of Eric’s!’
The other track, pushing past mentions from all other songs, was ‘Springsteen.’ That was the track never-fading-favorite from many fans, one of them attesting, ‘Something about ‘Springsteen’ it never gets old.’ Another just gave an epic musical mic drop, posting the iconic ‘woh woh woh’ hook of the song.
Some people dug deep into the track listing but hit us up with the weirder picks. ‘Creepin’ or Country Music Jesus but honorable mention to Jack Daniels,’ one fan said, while another gave props to ‘Hungover and Hard Up’ as their #1. And let’s not forget the one who mentioned ‘Like Jesus Does’—that’s to say that after 14 years, every song still has its die-hard.
Such a post also makes some fans realize just how fast time flies. One said, ‘🤯🤯 14 years?! This makes me feel old,’ with another being reminded of a recent show, ‘Had an incredible time at red rocks last week. A memory I’ll never forget.’
‘Chief’ was way bigger than an album. It got him his first Grammy nomination, spawned massive chart-toppers, and set Eric Church as a songwriter who can take small-town nostalgia and turn it into something everyone knows intimately. Judging by the comments, the magic hasn’t gone away.
Even casual fans poured out their love. ‘Not a single miss on the album. All of them could have been singles on the radio. Perfection,’ one person said. Another said, ‘Love them all! Good stuff!’
Well, given it’s an Eric Church post, one has to issue an international call sooner or later. ‘Eric, come to Brazil!’ is always a classic.
Whether it be the anthemic ‘Drink in My Hand’, reflective ‘Springsteen,’ or underrated deep cuts, ‘Chief’ is a monument fans refuse to part with. And judging by the comments, 14 years from now, the fans will still be arguing about their favorites.
So, to ‘Chief’, to the album that put Eric Church’s name on the map and gave us all a soundtrack for those nights we simply cannot forget, even if we tried.
