The Philadelphia 76ers have made their first move of the free agency period. While still looking to bring back Quentin Grimes and Guerschon Yabusele, it’s important to look at other pieces and bring in possible upgrades to the roster.
Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Sixers have agreed on a 2-year $5.3 million deal with wing player Trendon Watford.
Standing at 6-foot-9, and a 7-foor-2 wingspan to boot, Watford averaged 10.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 46.9% from the floor and 33% from deep for the Brooklyn Nets in the 2024-25 season. He is a career 34.9% shooter from beyond the arc and is somebody who can step in and produce right away in the rotation.
There is a lot that Watford can bring to the table. He is a terrific defender, brings a tenacity that’s needed, is athletic enough to take defenders off the dribble and get to the rim, and he has the ability to help the Sixers on the wing–a need in today’s NBA. His ability to play multiple positions will be a help off the bench and he is a proven scorer. This is a good value signing for Philadelphia at the outset of free agency.
