Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Abe Lucas is entering a critical season. Having been hampered by recurring injuries, Lucas played fewer than 700 snaps combined in 2023-24. The former Washington State standout is now heading for a contract year.
Pro Football Focus recently identified all 32 teams’ make-or-break player in 2025. Unsurprisingly for the Seahawks, they chose Lucas. That’s the correct decision.
“It appeared that Seattle had struck gold with former third-round pick Abraham Lucas after he posted a solid 68.4 PFF overall grade as a rookie in 2022,” Dalton Wasserman wrote. “Over the past two seasons, though, Lucas has played just 679 snaps while earning a 59.5 PFF overall grade. Much has been said this offseason about the struggles of Seattle’s interior offensive line, but they desperately need a healthy and productive season from their right tackle.”
The Seahawks are counting on Lucas to stay healthy and productive at right tackle this season. Offensive line coach John Benton is invested in Lucas’ development this year. The Seahawks don’t really have an alternative option.
Lucas is attempting to earn a contract extension from GM John Schneider. That could occur next offseason before the athletic blocker is scheduled to reach free agency if he enjoys a quality, healthy season. It’s literally now or never for Lucas.
