Ryan Fox earned his second PGA Tour win of the season — and the second of his career —when he outlasted Sam Burns in a marathon sudden-death playoff at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open over the weekend.
Fox and Burns played four extra holes, each making par on the par-5 18th the first three trips down until Fox hit a beautiful second shot with a fairway wood and made birdie on the fourth rendition to end it.
Fox took home a cool $1.764 million for his trouble and an exemption into the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont this week.
The excitement of a national open always draws eyes, especially with an exhilarating finish like that. According to Sports Business Journal’s Josh Carpenter, CBS reported 2.376 million viewers tuned in to the RBC Canadian Open, up 18 percent from a year ago when Robert MacIntyre hoisted the trophy.
Still, 2023 remains the gold standard in terms of viewership for this event. Canadian Nick Taylor’s thrilling playoff victory over Tommy Fleetwood drew 3.304 million viewers, according to SBJ.
