Barack Obama took the opportunity to tweet commendations of Pope Francis, proclaiming that he was a leader who inspired many people to reach for more. The former president lauded the following traits of the Pope-his humility and offering services for the sake of many poor and sick persons, such as embracing the sick and washing the feet of criminals. Some accepted Obama’s arguments; some were given-as they say since things went off course in the comment section.

Obama referred to the Pope in his tweet as a momentary interruption to the complacency of leaders among people. He went on to describe how simple, yet profoundly significant, gestures called all his listeners to remember their moral obligations. Obamas mourned as it should be with the world, not just for Catholics. Basic but civil, right? Not at all. The internet had its own ideas.
And then the nice ones came. User “hidden” (or should we say ああああああああ?) gave an adorable reply: ‘Sweet……You have amazing creative potential.’ Sure, totally random, but wholesome. Dax☆ simply left a comment, saying, ‘May his soul rest easy.’ Angel Figueroa joined in, saying, ‘Rest in peace pope Francisco. A great man you were and still will be.’ Completely human level.
Then came User MAGA❤️SLAM DUNKIN DONUTS (yes that is their real name) and the rant went: ‘BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL EVIL, INCLUDING THE POPE!! BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER!! WHAT ABOUT ALL THE DEMONIC ITEMS IN THE VATICAN?’ Just when you thought they couldn’t possibly get crazier, they finished with, ‘THE POPE WILL GO TO HELL!!’ Someone missed their coffee is all I’m saying.
Then there was Valo316247 telling the Pope was some ‘new world order degenerate’ for which he jabbed Obama who complimented him. Joey: “Pope Francis made me Question my faith. He wasn’t great.” Meanwhile, the user ‘smarterthanyou’ (how humble) claimed, ‘I’m hearing President Trump will be the next Pope.’ Okay, Jan.
Then of course they had to be the conspiracy theorists. ‘Athenian Stranger’ repeated multiple times how he has muted Obama and that while doing that, the algorithm of X is rigged. ‘MasterOfDesaster’ told to Obama, ‘You are a Muslim! Islam lies!’ Thanks for that I guess.
However, it wasn’t all chaos. ‘Donald McRonald’ defended Barack saying: ‘You can tell Barack is a great guy by the creepy dense comments from his detractors.’ A fair point. And then came ‘Empathintraining’ replying to the critics: ‘You people are so blind by bigotry your common sense chokes on it.’
Doesn’t it sound uncanny that it all started under a tweet about honoring a religious leader? One simply cannot defeat the internet when it turns any topic into a battlefield. The message was sincere, but the replies could speed up an awkward social media incident.

After all, in the end even Obama was left with that tribute on the effect an individual who impacted lives like the Pope could make but now at the same time has a commentary section to rival a circus. Praise, rage, and just some…that’s what Twitter is. Always entertaining, even on popes and presidents.
