Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen poked fun at his own captain Muhammad Rizwan after the team suffered its first defeat in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season, losing a high-scoring thriller to Karachi Kings.

Despite a blistering 105* off 61 balls from Rizwan — featuring nine fours and five sixes — Multan failed to defend a target of 235 at the National Bank Stadium.

Karachi opener James Vince stole the spotlight with a counterattacking 101 off 43 deliveries, supported by Khushdil Shah, guiding Kings to victory.

Following the loss, Tareen posted a tongue-in-cheek message on social media platform X, saying, “Learned a lot – especially from Vince and Khushdil!”

In a follow-up post, he joked about the team’s defensive efforts: “At least we fielded, I guess!”

Tareen’s tweets quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans. Some appreciated the humour, while others criticised him over past controversial remarks about the PSL franchise model.

Earlier this year, Tareen publicly criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) franchise ownership model, likening it to a rental arrangement.

The latest social media activity reignited debate around Tareen’s views, with fans questioning the credibility of owners making strong public statements amid on-field setbacks.
