Alabama baseball sweeps Texas A&M to open SEC conference play

    -

This past weekend provided what was likely the toughest test yet this season for the Alabama Crimson Tide, as the program traveled to College Station to open SEC baseball play against the Texas A&M Aggies.

Facing the 2024 national runner-up Aggies, Alabama however would certainly pass this test as well, sweeping Texas A&M with three consecutive victories in what was one of the Crimson Tide’s more impressive SEC series’ in recent memory.

Starting on Friday night, Alabama would take Game 1 by a final score of 6-4 in a game where the Crimson Tide hit four home runs, none of which were bigger than a pair of solo shots in the ninth by Brennen Norton and Kade Snell when the game was tied 4-4. The Crimson Tide were also led by a solid start from left-hander Zane Adams, while both Will Hodo and Bryce Fowler also homered.

In Game 2, Alabama went on to win by a final score of 6-2 in which the ninth inning was massive yet again, as Hodo hit a grand slam to break a 2-2 tie in the game’s final frame to pull away. Justin Lebron also went three-for-four with a home run and two RBI in the win, while Riley Quick was stellar on the mound, pitching five scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

Lastly, the Crimson Tide defeated Texas A&M by a score of 2-0 in the series finale Sunday in a game where pitching was the story for Alabama, even despite Snell going three-for-three with a home run. Bobby Alcock, who made the start, pitching seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, followed by two more shutout frames by Braylon Myers.

This was also the third time this season that Alabama’s pitching has kept an opponent off the scoreboard, as well as the first since March 7 in a 10-0 win over Presbyterian.

With these results, Alabama now sits at an impressive 20-1 overall for the season, as well as 3-0 in SEC play. Riding a four-game winning streak, the Crimson Tide will be back in action March 18 against South Alabama, as well as welcome Tennessee to Tuscaloosa this weekend for a high-profile series.
