Parents are often deeply concerned about raising their children to surpass them in every way, striving to ensure a brighter future for the next generation. Chrissy Teigen is no different. The mother-of-four recently had a truly emotional moment as she revealed what sheās afraid of passing along to her children.
On an episode of her Self-Conscious With Chrissy Teigen podcast, the 39-year-old shared with guest, New York Times bestselling author, motivational speaker, and media company CEO, Mel Robbins that she doesnāt want her children to ābe imprisonedā by feeling as if they are responsible for other peopleās emotions or caring what they think.
Robbins told Teigen that, she is ānever responsible for managing someone elseās emotions.ā Thatās when theĀ CravingsĀ cookbook author had an āepiphany.ā
Just what was the āepiphany about this matter? The former Sports Illustrated model said that she realized āthat Iām not alone in this,ā and that other people also feel that they are responsible for other peopleās emotions/feelings and what other people think.
āSometimes it feels very isolating to feel this way, and the fact that other people feel imprisoned by this too, that helps a lot, because one of the worst parts about it is me feeling crazy or feeling that nobody else will understand this feeling. āWhy am I like this?ā Iām really scared of passing this along to my kids.ā Teigen stated,
āI think that is the big realization for me, is, I canāt do this to my kids. I donāt ever want them to feel like they have to perform for everybody and be good all the time, but I know that sometimes I probably am that way.ā
Later on in the episode, Teigen became emotional, apologizing to her guest for her breakdown in regards to the subject. āI ended up believing that I was for everybody, and my body was for everybody, and it took a hold on every part of my life, and as you can see, it still has a hold on me now,ā she tearily stated.
āI cannot imagine this for my kids, I hope that they donāt want to please everybody in life, and I hope that they know that their body is their own, their mind is their own, their actions are their own, and they canāt control other people. I cannot have them live this way that I live.ā
Teigen shares her four children, Luna, Miles, Esti, and Wren, with husband EGOT-winner, John Legend. To hear Teigenās podcast with Robbins in its entirety, click here.
