Rick Tocchet Calls Filip Chytil’s Style Of Play A ‘Breath Of Fresh Air‘

    -

Filip Chytil has played in two games for the Vancouver Canucks and it’s safe to say Rick Tocchet is happy with his newest forward.

When talking about Chytil and Drew O’Connor, Tocchet credited their speed while using an interesting metaphor.

“I don’t want to overstate it, but I think Chytil and Drew O’Connor, the speed and their willingness to take the puck in the middle on a rush, it’s a little breath of fresh air,” Rick Tocchet said. “When you see he’ll take that puck, he goes in the middle of the ice and that’s when things happen. Just adding those two guys has helped our rush game. You can see (assistant coach) Yogi (Svejkovsky) — we’re smiling, because that’s the stuff we need.”

In two games, Chytil has recorded one goal, one assist and two points.

More importantly, the 25-year-old is averaging 20:24 minutes in those two games, compared to his 14:20 minute averages with the Rangers this season.

Chytil is playing a top-six role for the Canucks as this trade may have been the best thing to ever happen to him.

In New York, Chytil almost felt stuck in his role and now he’ll be given the opportunity to blossom into a reliable top-six center.
